Retelling Stories
Ontario Grade One Language Arts Curriculum :demonstrate an understanding of the information and ideas in oral texts by retelling the story or restating the information including the main idea (e.g.,use time-order words, such as first, then, next, finally, to retell a story they have heard; restate information from a movie about community workers, including a topic statement and several supporting details)
Students and Parents:
Today, we read Scaredy Squirrel, by Melanie Watt. Scaredy Squirrel is afraid of many things. He is already to leave his tree because he is afraid of green Martians, killer bees, tarantulas, potion ivy, germs and sharks. He accidently falls out of his tree and becomes friends with a dog. Can you recall what the beginning, middle, and end of the story?
Assignment = I would like it if parents can read one story to their children. On Friday I will ask students if they would like to share their stories to the class. It would be even better if they could explain the beginning, middle, and the end!

Daily Math Review - Patterning
Ontario Grade One Math Expectation : demonstrate achievement in measuring, patterning, and algebra.
Today, I used math manipulatives to create patterns. I started off by displaying a couple of patterns and asking questions about it. Then everyone was asked to create their own patterns and ask others to describe the patterns. Eventually, I asked students to play games with their patterns. They had create 3 patterns, making one different and asking other students to identify it. The math manipulatives used were circles, octagons, triangles, squares, and rectangles.
